What is Air Sealing and How Does it Work?
Air sealing is where any surface of your home passes air from the exterior into the interior and needs to be sealed to control the climate inside of the home. Some obvious points of air sealing include around exterior doors and windows to the home. You want to seal these air leaks to avoid overdrawing your ac unit and to keep your home more comfortable. Air sealing also provides more control with humidity levels which can prevent mold or mildew from growing in your home. The air leakage your home is experiencing without air sealing can account for around 30 percent of a home’s heating and cooling costs, according to the U.S Department of Energy.

Detecting Air Leaks
There are some easy air leaks to identify in your home. The leaks around your doors and windows are often much easier to identify and seal. There are a few telltale signs that indicate air leaks throughout the rest of your home. One of the most common is feeling chilly or drafty when you enter one room, but not others nearby- this typically means there is a window or part of the attic letting moisture and air into part of the house!
Sealing Air Leaks
So if you want to make your home super cozy and comfortable, there are some simple ways to seal your home: install rubber door sweep at the thresholds of exterior doors; apply caulk (or weather stripping) around windows and cracks in order for them not leak air in or out easily.
Before Insulate It installs new insulation we highly recommend getting your attic air sealed with us as well. Your insulation does not create an air seal, it simply fills the space it is installed into. Air and water can still pass through insulation which can actually damage it. Insulate It can air seal your attic before installing the new insulation which will make the new insulation last longer and help control the climate of your entire home.
Insulate-It Solutions: Attic Air Sealing
Here is an attic Insulate-It Solutions has air sealed recently with spray foam before fiberglass insulation has been added. The foam spray seals any passages of air from your roof into your attic space. Foam insulation is an excellent way to insulate your home. The foam spray will fill in all of the nooks and crannies it comes across, be it on walls or ceilings in attics; inside crawl spaces between wall studs where you can't reach with drywall sheeting.

When you air seal your attic, you can protect it from the elements and make sure that air leaks don’t happen. That way, when the temperatures drop in wintertime or get warmer in the summertime, your house will still be comfortable without any extra cooling cost to worry about.
